Appliance Night Out

A short animation I made. Took me nine months to create.

Synopsis: Ned the Washer and Bill the Dryer go downtown to an exclusive dance club just for Appliances. Bill is reluctant at first but then he loses all control!

Easter Eggs: There are characters from my previous animations. See if you can spot them all. My sister Caryn Casey makes 7 appearances in this film. I’m keeping my promise to her that I would put her in an animation, So I’m going to put her in all of mine. May she rest in peace.

Awards won:
Artimation 9 “Best 3D” and “Best Concept”
Friendshangout.com animation contest – First Place
5th Annual George Stickel Festival of Movie Images – “Honorable Mention”

Festivals Screened:
Artimation 9,
The Dam Short Film Festival – Nevada
Main Line International Film Festival – Pennsylvania

Duration : 0:2:55

    1. I really didn’t feel like animating all those outlets and cords. Think how tangled everything would get.

    2. I view it like the appliances try to make themselves look their best before they go out to party and power cords are like work attire for them. You wonldn’t wear your work clothes to a dance club.

    3. You except the fact that appliances can talk, drive cars, and drink booze but you cant except the fact that they don’t have electrical cords in a dance club?

I whipped out my entire arsenal of programs for this. The bulk of the work was done in 3ds max 8. For textures I used Adobe photoshop 7. To composite the 1000 layers that rendered out i used Adobe After effects 6.5 and to mix sound and cut the final edit I used Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. Yes they are old programs but it’s too expensive to keep up and buy upgrades.
