Starting my own refrigeration appliance repair business?
want to start my own business in repairing refrigerators and freezers. I have the necessary certifications and experience to work on them. What would I need to start out? Is it ok to just charge the diagnostic fee and if it can’t be fixed it’s free and do I charge for the part that’s needed?
You need your own tools, your own vehicle, and your own customers. It is ok to charge a diagnostic fee, even if it can’t be fixed. You should charge for parts as well as labor, with a mark-up on the parts (you have to charge more than you paid, or you don’t make any money) If you need an idea of the labor fees, just call around and get some quotes from the repair businesses you will be competing with. This will give you an idea of what the fees for repairs in your area are. And here’s some free advice from me, trouble shoot to find out what is wrong before you go willy nilly replacing parts. A lot of repair guys just try to fix stuff through trial and error. Your customers pick up on this, and they won’t give your name to their friends when they need a repairman. word of mouth is your best friend when you are starting out. Be professional, fair, and accurate, and your business will grow fast.
