Lower your energy bills – tips…?

1.Turn off lights and Appliances
2.Turn down your thermostat by one degree to save up to 10% on your bill
3.Look for energy efficient appliances
4.Lag your hot water tank
5.Consider an online plan – these can be cheaper
6.Pay by direct debit
7.Move to dual fuel
8.Check your meter readings
9.Review your plan once a year
10.Compare suppliers to find the cheapest plan

Thought i would share…. but also, can someone tell me what number 4 exactly means? "lag your hot water tank" :/

    it means wrap it up with insulation to keep the water from loosing its heat.

    Lag your tank – Put an insulating jacket around it…. not as relevant these days as most tanks come pre insulated surrounded by foam… but back in the ‘olden days’, you could just install a bare uninsulated copper tank which leaked heat like no-one’s business.

    I also think ‘lag your tank’ is a euphemism in parts of Essex !

    e.g. "are you coming down the pub tonight or are you staying in to lag your tank again?"

    Of course I could be wrong…..

    11 Turn off you PC
    12 Don’t leave appliances on stand by.
    13 Use low energy lamps .
    Put a coat around your tank to keep the heat in.
    Mind you to save even more energy get a combi boiler and do away with the hot water cylinder saves a mint.

    buy a hot water jacket to fit over your boiler come in a standard size are easy to put on and can be bought in b&q.Hope this helps.
